The Role

The Department of International Studies is seeking a Lecturer with a strong research and teaching record in the area of French and Francophone Studies. The appointee will be expected to develop, teach and convene units in French language and culture at all levels and will be required to contribute to other interdisciplinary undergraduate and/or postgraduate units offered in the Department. You will actively seek funding for, and contribute to, the research activities of the Department of International Studies (including interdisciplinary research as appropriate) and make an active contribution to the administration of the Department, Faculty and University. 

About You

You will be a highly motivated academic with a PhD in a relevant field of French and Francophone Studies and a strong research track record. You will have experience teaching and convening units in French language and culture studies and using technologies associated with blended learning to ensure students are successfully learning French at a tertiary level. You will be able to supervise higher degree research students, and to collaboratively contribute to the ongoing success of the Department of International Studies and the Faculty of Arts at Macquarie University.

Essential Criteria

  • Native speaker competency of French and English;
  • PhD in a relevant field of French and Francophone Studies; 
  • Demonstrated experience in quality research/scholarship with a focus on Francophone Studies or contemporary French studies in a global context. This should be evidenced by publications.
  • A capacity to supervise higher degree research students; 
  • Demonstrated success in teaching and/or convening units in French language and culture studies at undergraduate level; experience with online delivery and associated learning technologies for blended learning;
  • Demonstrated successful implementation of French as a Foreign Language teaching methodology at the tertiary level;
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a collegial environment that fosters and supports the work of others;

Desirable Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in quality research/scholarship in one of the following areas: Francophone cultural production, French contemporary literature, film, theatre and culture; French culture and society, including in European and/or international contexts; Sociolinguistics or Translation Studies related to French language.
  • Experience with aligning teaching and learning outcomes with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
